Paul Romain

Paul is a structural engineer and joined the UK FIRES team in May 2022 as a Research Associate at the University of Bath. His research focuses on mapping the future decarbonisation of the core construction materials of concrete, steel and timber as influenced by technical, policy and developmental change.

Paul is a Chartered Engineer and a recognised expert in the field of tensile and lightweight membrane structures with notable design contributions to the Eden Project (Cornwall) and the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, amongst a list of other material-efficient built projects. With a long career in design, knowledge management and, most recently, sustainability, he has served on code development committees for BSI and ASCE, run his own practice and is currently leading sustainability initiatives for a specialist fabricator.
